Sun City Christian Church announces a third return engagement of THE ARIZONA TRIO on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Enjoy the trio as they entertain in the style of the Kingston Trio. The trio is led by MIKE CHAMBERLAIN, singer and guitarist who is not only a well-known television celebrity throughout Arizona and California, he is an accomplished musician. Singer/guitarist/banjo playing DAVE WOODRUFF won world wide talent “Tops in Blue” competitions while flying with the U.S. Air Force. He has opened for the Kingston Trio and is proud to have shared the stage with Bob Hope, Roy Rogers, The Four Lads, Bobby Vee and Roger Miller. GARY KOTULA is a multi-talented artist (painter as well as singer/bass player). Gary studied theater and has been a character actor playing numerous roles. Gary’s incredible stand-up bass playing and baritone vocals add just the right touch to THE ARIZONA TRIO’s fantastic harmonies.

In 2011 The Arizona Trio returned to thrill our audience for the second time with their charisma, humor, and tremendous talent. They return again by popular demand. Tickets are not required and everyone is welcome. A free will offering will be received and we invite you to stay after the program and enjoy light refreshments. Mark your calendar! The February All Church Dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. As has become a fun tradition, Dr. Steve Minor will interview any new members and we will all enjoy getting to know these interesting and valuable people.
Please bring a sizable dish to share and your own table service. Drinks will be furnished. Expect to have a good time, good food and good fellowship.

Many will recognize Dr. Hamm’s name as our denomination’s former General Minister and President (1993 to 2003). He is the author of two popular books “2020 Vision for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)” and “From Mainline to Front Line”. But it’s his most recent book, “Recreating the Church; Leadership for the Postmodern Age,” which brings him to Arizona.

As you have suspected, our culture is changing – sometimes much, much too quickly. For the church to survive and even thrive we must understand as well as move along with these changes in our society. We believe Dr. Hamm is just the man to help with this goal.

The basic schedule is as follows:

Friday evening, February 24

Potluck Dinner and time with our Elders (As well as any others interested in church leadership)

Saturday, February 25

Invitation to the whole Disciples region to spend the day with Dr. Hamm (Lunch provided)

Sunday, February 26

Dr. Hamm will be preaching at both services (8:30 am and 10:30 am)

Sun City Christian Church will host our Annual Luncheon and Style Show on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Presented by our Disciples Women’s Ministries department, this year’s theme will be “A Little Touch of Italy.” The luncheon will be catered by Simply Grand Catering and will begin at 12:00 noon. At 1:00 pm we will move into the sanctuary and the style show will begin. Fashions are being provided by Bon Worth and the models are our Sun City Christian Church women. Tickets are $15 for the luncheon and style show. The deadline to purchase tickets is February 19, 2012. Sun City Christian Church announces a performance by The SOUNDS OF THE SOUTHWEST SINGERS on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. The Sounds of the Southwest Singers serve the Northwest Valley communities. This volunteer choir is under the direction of Matt Deller, sponsored by The Phoenix Conservatory of Music (PCM), and funded by donation only. They perform a variety of music with concerts throughout the year.

They have sung at Carnegie Hall, toured Germany and Austria, performed at Disneyland and in May of 2012 are scheduled to sing in New York’s Lincoln Center. The choir is open to anyone who loves to sing. Tickets are not required and everyone is welcome. A free will offering will be received and we invite you to stay after the program and enjoy light refreshments. Doors will open at 2:00 p.m. Sun City Christian Church is located at 9745 W. Cliff Brelsford, a beloved member of Sun City Christian Church, passed away on Monday, October 10th. A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Sun City Christian Church. Cliff played the trumpet in the Sun City Concert Band for many years as well as several other musical groups in the Sun Cities. Cliff and wife Barbara, who preceded him in death in September, 2007, moved to Sun City from Aspen, Colorado in 1978.

The Disciple Women’s Ministries of Sun City Christian Church meet monthly, usually on the first Wednesday of the month (October – May) at 12 Noon in Cobbs Hall for a luncheon and General Meeting. The DWM meetings are scheduled to resume Wednesday, October 5, 2011.

On Friday, November 4th the Northwest Phoenix Chapter of Church Women United (CWU) will celebrate World Community Day at Sun City Christian Church. Registration will be at 9:30 am with the celebration program beginning at 10:00 am.

CWU is a national volunteer Christian ecumenical women’s movement initiated and carried out by women in the United States and Puerto Rico. It is a movement that brings together women of diverse races, cultures and traditions in closer Christian fellowship, prayer, advocacy and action for peace with justice in the world. CWU engages millions of women representing 26 supporting denominations. It was founded in 1941 and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has been involved with CWU since the beginning. Our local Northwest Valley Unit is made up of 16 churches representing 9 denominations. If you would like more information please contact the church office at (623) 972-6179.

Mark your calendars! You won’t want to miss our first Craft Fair on Friday, November 18 and Saturday, November 19 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm both days. There will be approximately 25 craft vendors (indoors); a baked goods table and newly published Sun City Chrisitan Church cookbooks will be available for purchase. Each vendor will provide a unique item for a silent auction and the winners will be announced or notified after 2:00 pm on Saturday the 19th.
